• Improving before you move: Making a major improvement before you move may not be a good idea. Most improvements do not yield dollar for dollar return in less than 2 yrs. Consider less costly improvements; countertops, new paint.
• Failure to Maintain: By keeping up the maintenance of your home will help retain the value.
• Do Not Over Improve: Do not improve your house beyond what the neighborhood has.
• Keep it Neutral: If you are planning on selling shortly after your improvements, keep it neutral; paint and carpet should be in the beige family. Look at model homes or remodeling magazine to get ideas.
